Today is one of the most special days in all of sports: The start of the NFL season! And as usual the NFL schedule maker has worked his magic to give the fans some of the most stimulating matchups you can handle. So look no further for a preview of the BEST OF EACH WEEK starting today! To each their own but some games just stand out more than others and I'm here to shine the spotlight on those candidates. Here we go!
Cowboys vs. Giants
Wednesday at 8:30 pm EDT
A classic NFC East matchup this game has consequences from the get go. Though the Cowboys have struggled to live up to the high expectations of their fans and owner Jerry Jones, you can't ever count them out until it's mathematically impossible. Tony Romo is primed to get the job done after a solid campaign last year, where he finished with a quarterback rating of 102.5 in 16 starts for fourth best in the league. He's had a hard time against the G-Men however being sacked nine times last season and having lost his last five starts, so if things are going to change it's got to be now. What's really on the line tonight is what I call the 'Stamp of the Season', the inaugural impression you'll leave on the viewers and the perception they'll have of you for the rest of the year. My pick... THE COWBOYS!!!!
Bills vs. Jets
Sunday at 1 pm EDT
The attention that surrounds the New York Jets locker room has been on extreme high alert since the arrival of Tim Tebow. The critics have been salivating for the first Mark Sanchez and Tebow flop show and it could happen as early as this weekend against a seemingly tougher AFC East opponent. Or, it could be the coming of a new kind of quarterback dynamic and a less aggravated and much lighter version of head coach Rex Ryan. The Bills, who started last year's campaign 5-0 have added Mario Williams to the mix in an attempt to compete with the Pats and Dolphins. Expect to see some interesting play calling, players tripping over each other and snaps being caught by nobody. Or, expect to see highlight reel, higher power catches from above and the return of the defense down below. My pick... The JETS!!!!
49ers vs. Packers
Sunday at 4:25 pm EDT
Aaah this should be one hell of a game. Not only is it the best ground team versus a Top 3 aerial team of last season, it's the best ground team versus a Top 3 aerial team of last season! After watching the 49ers cement themselves as contenders in their tough loss in the NFC championship game against the Giants, this year I'm now more interested in watching teams get taken down than light it up. While the Packers will no doubt continue to drop bombs on their opponents, which should be fun, there is no greater matchup than offense versus defense so let's get this party started! Alex Smith, who often speaks highly of himself got his big contract over the summer so this season there should be no excuses from #11. My pick... The 49ERS!!!
Stay tuned for my MONDAY NIGHT PREVIEW featuring the Chargers and Raiders!
