T'was a busy night in sports and now the first round is set in stone for 3 of the biggest leagues in North America. Starting in New York, the Rangers defeat the Ottawa Senators in 7 games while down the street at Radio City Music Hall the Colts draft Andrew Luck 1st overall, followed by the Redskins selecting Robert Griffin III. The Vikings traded their third overall pick to the Browns and go on to select Trent Richardson. The Knicks? They were in Charlotte to pound the Bobcats by 20 points in the last game of the regular reason, as Michael Jordan's franchise set an NBA record for lowest winning percentage. The NBA opening round starts Saturday, and I can't wait for Amazing to Happen.
The Florida Panthers fought back from 2-0 in their Game 7 against the Devils, only to be scorched by the rookie touch of Adam Henrique a couple minutes into double OT. The sun may have set in Sunrise, but in Miami the thermometer is rising. The #2 Heat match up with the #7 Knicks, who they swept in the season series. Keeping in Florida, the Jacksonville Jaguars up-traded their 7th overall pick to the Buccaneers for their fifth pick - and selected Justin Blackmon.
Six teams made first round trades in the NFL yesterday, including the Cowboys moving up to sixth and selecting cornerback Morris Clariborne. The active Rams, who went from 2nd overall to 6th to 14th grab a bunch a extra picks to hopefully help out QB Sam Bradford.
After a compact 66-game season in the NBA the defending champion Mavericks drop to 7th in the West while the Spurs and Bulls ride the 50-win train finishing first in their respective conferences. With barely enough time to recover from my sports coma and get groceries, Round 2 of the NHL playoffs gets underway tonight with the Preds taking on the Coyotes. So there you have it- the beginning and the end of the first round.
